This year's Lone Star Skills Competition will consist of four (4) events:

  • Home Run Derby

  • Accuracy Throw

  • Base Running

  • "Around the Horn"

The competition is design to insure that every player on the team gets to participate in one event.

The competition will begin on Sunday after the Open Ceremony and Picnic...somewhere around 3:30ish.

Home Run Derby:  (U7-U8/FLD 3 - U9/FLD6)
There will be
no more than two participants per team. The coach will pitch to his own batter.  The batter will get 5 outs. An "OUT" is a fail attempt at hitting a home run.  The batter(s) who has the most home runs will advance to next round.  "Rounds" will continue until we have a winner.

Accuracy Throw:  (U7-U8/FLD 7 - U9/FLD9)
There will be no more than two participants per team.   Each player will throw from a marked spot in mid-left/center and mid-right/center field.  Each player will have three chances to hit a target located at home plate.  The player(s) who either hit the target or are closest to the target will advance to the next round.  Rounds will continue until we have a winner.

Base Running: (U7-U8/FLD 4 - U9/FLD5)
The event is designed to get every player involved in the skill competition; therefore, those players not participating on one of the other events can participated in the Base Running. Runners will start from home plate and touch all bases, back to home plate. Time will begin from home plate and end at home plate.  Runner with the fastest time will win.

Around the Horn:
(U7-U8/FLD 2 - U9/FLD3)
It will be based on the fastest time. The sequence will be pitcher to catcher; catcher to third, third to second; second to shortstop; shortstop to first; first to home.  The time will begin and end with the catcher.  Players must receive the ball and throw from their normal playing position.  A reverse sequence will be acceptable
